For Christmas I got a $25 gift certificate for Barnes and Nobles (Thanks, Laurette!!) and though bookstores are becoming rare (though not extinct like Blockbuster Video stores) I found one and bought Mindy Kaling's book.

A REALLY MILD BUT NOT REALLY SPOILER ALERT!!

I've just started the book and (without giving much away) came across a part where Mindy is showing her high school friends Monty Python videos.  It's a small incident that may or may not have a profound effect on their friendship.

THAT ALSO TOTALLY HAPPENED TO ME.

When I was in 8th grade, I was at a sleepover with two girls who, in the following year, would be crowned the most popular girls of high school.  I will call them Anne and Blane.  We were about to hit the sack when I decided to share a tape of Robin Williams' stand up.

Me:  "You guys HAVE to listen to this!".  (I can barely contain my snorting laughter)

I pop in the tape into a radio and am ready for them to die with laughter along with me.

Anne:  (Yawns and rolls over)  I don't get it.

Blane:  Yea, it sounds like he's some pirate or something.

CLICK!  THE LIGHT IS TURNED OUT.

It wasn't just that they didn't like it or understand it, it was how they dismissed it and were not even open to it.

It was an omen that our friendship was not meant to be.  For the next four years, they would become gorgeous, blond and would talk about parties in front of other people who were not invited.  I would go into theater and drawing making me even more lame than being Korean in a small town in Maryland.

Some days in New York City, when an old lady rams my heels with a shopping cart or I'm groped on a crowded subway and get MAD, I remember where I grew up:  a lovely but boring and provincial place where I felt out of place and suffocated.

An acting coach recently said:  "You didn't come to New York City for it to be easy."  This is true.  And I thank my two blondie friends who shot up to high school super stardom while I sat in my room listening to rap songs and making skits of their videos in my mind.  I thank them for giving me a large clue that I didn't belong with them and giving me hope that there was something bigger outside of our small town.

They are probably with five kids and divorced at least once and have gained a lot of weight.  And look at ME!  I'm in NEW YORK CITY, working random odd jobs and struggling to make it as an actress!  Sometimes my bank account dips into scary amounts and there is no hope of me ever owning a home.  HA HA, IN YOUR FACE ANNE AND BLANE!

In conclusion, if you love comedy, check out Mindy's book.  She is LOVELY, SMART and HEELarious.  And unlike the many self improvement books on my kindle and iPad, I'm proud to read Is "Everyone Hanging Out Without Me" on the subway.

I'm a comedic actress and writer.  Please check out my web series, SuperTwins!

I'm not a fashionista like my little cousin, Silvia Couture but I do enjoy things looking pretty.

My mom and I really enjoy thrift store shopping (I LOVE Buffalo Exchange) and mixing and matching outfits up.  I'd say my style is eclectic: artsy and downtown/Brooklyn mashed in with a little surfer & rockstar.

I love colorful, showy pieces and I enjoy being a little bit "off" and having fun with my wardrobe.

This weekend my closet and drawers were a mess so I went through them and reorganized everything.  I weeded out pieces that did not feel good or look good or things that I hadn't worn in a long time.  It felt terrific to let go the superfluous things in my closet.

Got my makeup done before an audition.

I'm the headless actress!  HA!
I took some photos of my outfits with my iMac just to remember what I wore for auditions and just generally speaking.  (AUGH, I lost that pink watch...kind of miss it.)

I love this outfit.  I could wear this as a uniform everyday.
Necklace is by Kat Roberts.

Please click here to bid on Nick Abadzis's original art work from his book Laika.  It's to help pay for Dylan Williams who is fighting cancer.

In Vlogging News:
I got an email from YouTube's robot and it said that I was able to monetize my video blogs and though it's probably not that big of a deal, I'm very very excited.  ^ _ ^ !!  It makes me want to take my vlog to the next level.

I've been doing my vlog with the camera from my computer and while it's expedient, it's not the highest quality.  I'll still use a Flip or iPhone when I'm out and about...but for the most part, the SLR is the BOMB.

I got a monitor for my SLR camera and it's a game changer.  Above is a still from a vlog I did.

In SuperTwins! News:

We are very excited because we have less than a month where we drop the first episode on October 6, 2011.

This weekend I have an editing session with my fabulous and lovely editor, Anna Holtzman.  I'm so very excited!

My mom has the habit of coming to my apartment and dropping off stuff from my childhood.  From old blankets, to greeting cards from when I was christened...this was yet another beauty.

This should be titled:  Lifecycle of a Scrawny Brown Korean girl.  I don't look ANYTHING like I looked when I was a kid.  For some reason I got a bit paler and my eyes got bigger.  (And no, I didn't get any surgery, though in my culture plastic surgery is hereditary.)

I like how I started with flat bangs and then somehow my hair grows aerodynamic and poufy.

Anyway, here are multiple awkward and fashion backward pictures for you to laugh at and possibly make you feel better about yourself.

Last week I dyed my hair a brown/blonde kind of look.

I had wanted to do it for a LONG time.  My little cousins Silvia and Clara from Georgia have had beautiful brown/blonde hair for years and I really wanted to try it.  What stopped me was that I spent dough on headshots as well as hairdressers who would turn me down.

I wanted to a funky little, Japanese-chic style.  I LOVE Japanese fashion magazines and wanted a change.

I went to Leslie Hutchins, a hair stylist extraordinaire in Brooklyn and got it done.  (DM or email me if you'd like her info, she's FAB)

I feel different.  It's a BIG change, probably one of the most drastic things I've done with my hair.  I had an audition a few days ago and admit I felt a bit weird with my new hair.

But I'm slowly coming around.  I feel more stylish and less amorphous.

Here's to changing it up!

natalie-kim-supertwins-synopsis_.gifThis sums up the story of the SuperTwins!  Unfortunately this weekend its just myself (Karin) that is attending the con, but hopefully in New York Karin and Kai can unite!

Thanks so much to AAFL, AAWW, Dean Haspiel, George O'Connor, Josiah Madigan, Robbie Sublett, Aldous Davidson, ALL the folks at Dayside Productions & Michelle Glick Wolter!  This project would not have been in existence without their help!
